Timing Belt
Hey,
I have a 2000 A6T Q. I bought it used with 73K on the engine, it now has ~76K. The previous owner kept very poor records so I have no idea if the timing belt was replaced. I don't want to drop $1000 on something that may have been replaced already. The carfax has no record of any belt replacements. Can I tell the age of the belt by looking at the specification printing on the outer edge or any other method? If I do need to replace the TB, should I be looking into other 75K maintenence issues/parts? Any help would be appreciated. DPH |
RE: Timing Belt
You should be able to look at the belt and see if it has any cracks or wear on it. See if the writing on it is worn. Honestly, I doubt it has been done. Who would spend a grand on a timing belt change and then sell the car? Most people go get a quote and say "heck no i'm going to sell the car and get a new one!"
