Default Tire Pressure for 2004 A6 S-Line

Hi All,

I was wondering what you guys use for your tire pressure. I ask because my 2004 A6 S-Line's recommended tire pressure for normal load is 41psi, 49psi under full load. The manual also recommends you add 5psi if doing a lot of highway driving. Most of my driving is on roads where the speed limit is 70km/h or 80km/h. I decided to set my pressure to 43psi. Mainly because its a pain to constantly be adjusting my pressure based on how many passengers I may have or if I will be on the highway, so I set it "in the middle". In theory, if I hit the highway with 3 passengers and a full trunk Audi would recommend 54psi...that seems a bit much. I set it to 46psi for a long highway trip and when I would go over choppy sections (some of our highways are not very smooth) it felt like I was going over a speed bump.

Think its ok to just leave the tires at 43, or is it best to adjust the pressure depending on highway/passengers?

There is another recent thread discussion about this. You should have a sticker in your right rear wheelwell giving pressures for different tyres and loads. Mine shows 35 for normal and 46 for very heavy loads. I've never gone higher than 38. The higher the pressure, the greater the risk of wearing out the center tread of your tyre very quickly. Also, ride will be harder.

Yes, the sticker on my wheelwell says 41psi for normal loads, 49psi for heavy loads and the manual recommends adding 5psi when going on the highway. And to add further confusion, I just had it in for an oil change and the dealership set the pressure to 36psi. The time I hit the highway and added 5psi as per the manual, it felt like I was running 20inch run-flats the ride was that choppy. I may just set it to 41psi and leave it. Seems to be the best balance for performance/ride quality. I'm just concerned that there may be danger in not adding 5psi when on the highway...

36 or 38 when spirited driving... would go to 40 if heavy loads, but rare for me
