I replaced the tranny and differential fluid at 40k miles in my 05 4.2. But I am a little nuts on maintenance.

"I was living under the impression that an automatic transmission has a "multi-disk clutch pack" (I called it "kit") - 2 halves, that is applied via piston action, causing the output shaft to spin at the same speed as the input shaft, hence allowing shifting through the gears. If the clutches are worn out, the shitfing is affected.
But that's just in theory. You guys surely have a more extensive knowledge related to the automatic Audis. I just learn as I go, by discovering things about this car."

Let's get an end to the clutch confusion.

The clutch you are referring to is the notorious "captive clutch" ! - locks up the TC - failure leads to TC replacement - there is an Audi TSB.

More details here:

I doubt you have that the dreadful application.

No problem, I got over the confusion some days back, thanks to Axel_NY's tranny diagram.
I do have a clutch, and the tranny does have a filter as the one posted on the previous page.

Thanks, nevertheless.

I didn't realize the Audi A6 had a problem shifting in first gear.. I thought my tranny was slipping because recently even when I let the car warm up enough I feel outta first gear the shift is quite hard. It seems the rest of the gears are fine, but I was planning on changing the tranny fluid to Redline.

Dealership - Have no idea; you can call them and ask.

DIY:
* Filter Gasket/Seal Ring ......... $ 1.25
* Filter KIT (including Filter + Pan Gasket) ---- $ 25.70

* Final Drive Oil Seal; Front/Rear Left/Right; 45x60x8mm; Differential Output Seal
For models with manual transmission. (4 per car)...... $ 2.49/piece
* Transmission Mount (IF YOU NEED - 2 per car) .... $ 55.74/piece

+ ATF Fluid (5/6 quarts?) - $ 50- 60.

Whomever has the same model as yours, could tell you better the exact ammount.
