Transmission help please
ok first off it 2001 a6 2.8 non quat.
today taking a trip to my chiropractor i noticed that smoke was coming out the back of my car and pulled over to find that my tranny fluid is leaking like crazy. i got the car on a jack and couldnt find the source of were the trany was leaking. im assuming it was some where i couldnt see very well cause the pan looked to be ok. maybe the rear main seal? any suggestions and please be specific in describing the area to me please. im still new to audi even though i did alot of the servicing my self but sometimes i need baby steps before i tackle a big job.

CVT and tip are two different transmissions. In order to help, we need more information. Put a piece of clean cardboard under the car, start it up, foot hard on the brake, run it through each gear without letting the car move then shut the car off. Pull out the cardboard and tell us where the fluid is hitting the cardboard: At the front of the engine, at the rear of the engine but front of the trans, at the rear fo the trans, etc.

Update about tranny
ok guys heres a update to what i have done and the outcome. well i bought the the tranny kit from blauparts and changed the fluid to see where i could see a leak from. so about 3.5 liters in the tranny started to leak at what looks like the upper front of the tranny. after seeing this i assume its the rear main seal, oh and when i put the car on to suck up the fluid there was a grinding sound and as the fluid went in it started to decrease so i assume the more fluid i put in the less this will happen? some one local told me to look at the upper oil pan seal cause this could mimic are leak from the rear main seal but i ruled it out because it wasnt leaking any where until i started pumping the fluid in. now im thinking how the hell am i going to pull this tranny out myself on some jack stands. as alwaya any info you guys have would be great.

The "rear main seal" would result in an oil leak, not a transmission fluid leak. You should take your car to a professional mechanic with a lift to remove the transmission and let them rebuild it.

i'm not sure about your tranny, but most auto trannys have a plastic bushing around the input shaft that works with the trans fluid pump. i've seen these get chewed up and start leaking out the front of the trans. of course, the trans was junk as the plastic got chewed and wedged through the valve body.

@bob martin
so you think my tranny is done then bob? so theres no other seal around or anything like that to check.
@mlwartman
so your talking internal right? like the plastic piece MIGHT be chewed up in my tranny.
