Default Troubleshooting/Rebuilding the drivers door central locking mechanism

Im about 2 months into owning a 99 a6 quattro avant and had a pretty sweet issue yesterday...

Got home, locked the car with the Fob, and it promptly unlocked and rolled all the windows down and proceeded to do this until i could take it apart. I got the door card off and unplugged the lock, so its stopped for now but i need to get this thing fixed.

I understand that this is a problem with the drivers door locking mechanism and sticky contacts, but what do you guys reccomend to fix it? $180 for a whole new unit is out of the question, i have heard that there are some switches/contacts you can replace if you take it completely apart, any good sources on the those items? Is there a chance i can just take it apart and clean it?

I realize there's most likely a thread for this but haven't found it yet. Please help!!

All your windows and locks went crazy? Then no its not a master window switch as it doesn't control the locks. Pull up the carpet under the driver's side front, and locate the comfort control module. If you find any water in there thats the problem. If water is there we need to find why water is getting inside the car.

Not the master windows switch but the actual lock core that you put your key into on the drivers door. That controls the locks and the windows. My guess is that is dirty contacts or bad solder points. So it gets stuck in unlock mode, or remote window roll down mode.

I can tell that was causing the problem because i took the door card off and unplugged the plug going into that lock. Problem solved for now, or should i say problem stopped for now.

You mean the lock cylinder is stuck closed? Never came across that before. Do you use the key to lock your doors a lot, or just use the buttons on the fob? If thats the case i would assume you just need to change out the cylinder.

Default Similar CLS problem with my 2000 A4Q

Any resolution to this problem either way? My A4 is doing the same thing. Windows roll down on their own alarm starts going off all on its own. Pulled one of the CLS fuses to buy some time, but cannot use windows or locks for the time being.

I had the exact same thing happen to my 01 A6. Check these people:
Parts for VW Jetta TDI Golf Passat 1.8T Beetle Eos Audi A4 TT A3 A6 5000 4000 100 200 Cars and Diesel Injector Pumps.
$35 for a brand new OEM lock mechanism (I had to switch one bracket from the old one, but everything else was perfect fit). You can call them to double-check the part number - they are very helpful. Put the new one in and everything works perfectly. $35 is way less than your time is worth trying to get the old one working again, which probably won't be successful anyway.

Wow! I have searched everywhere for a door lock assembly but couldn't find anything for under 200. How did you find this? I will have to try this and hope this is not a scam or ripoff.

If I remember correctly I Googled for the actual part number...
Fixed the problem for my A6, still working fine for me.

Follow up:
I ordered the door lock assembly and was afraid I would run into some kind of trouble because I read some horror stories about emiata (the actual seller behind the website). However when the part arrived I checked it from top to bottom and compared it to my old one - It was a perfect match (except the bottom cover was black instead white plastic). After a 30 minute installation my car now knows again when I open the door.

Thanks again for that link!
