trunk release button in door frame

Hi All- New '03 2.7T owner in the DC area. My trunk lid switch was missing the button part (the plastic piece that you press), so I ordered a new one from worldimpex and now have the part. However, I'm not quite sure how to replace it. I could probably pop out the plastic piece from the new one and replace it on the old one, but I think it might be better to replace the whole switch if I can figure out how to get it out. Advice?

What happened to me was that the button broke and came out, leaving a hole as you described.

I ordered a new switch (around 25$ CAD) and just replaced it myself.
The switch comes whole and you just toss out the old one. I pried the old frame and everything out gently with a screwdriver, removed the wire from the old switch, put it onto the new switch and then just popped the new assembly into the slot pushing with firm pressure.

No advice but I have a 2001 A6 and the button for the panic alarm popped out of the door pillar - dealer replaced it on CPO warranty.

RE: trunk release button in door frame

Basic instructions (from memory, so forgive me if I forgot about a screw or a bolt here and there):
1.Tools:
-flat head screwdriver (medium)
- small socket wrench (1/4")
- 11mm (i think) long socket
-needlenose pliers
2. Open both driver side doors. Use flat head screwdriver and hands to gentlyremovethe plastic floor trim by both doors.
- there are several clips on the bottom side that slide into that part of the trim; they squeeze into slits in the floor. Careful when popping out -- clips are metal, trim is plastic
- clips might remain inside metal floor -- use needlenose pliers to remove
2. loosen the B-pillar trim, but do not attempt to remove completely
3. from under B-pillar trim, push button and electric clip out from inside.
-use spare tools to keep space under B-pillar trim open
4. Remove top portion of button
- it's either brown or black
- 2 plastic edges on either side clip it in place -- need to loosen both
5. Replace with new button and fit inside trim
6. Replace trim as before
- note that floor trim is very flexible
- metal clips are moody and some like to slip
- get dirt out while the trim is off
- clean under seat
7. Test button and remote

Good luck!

Audi only pays 10 minutes to replace the switch. You just pop it out with a poket scewdriver and pop in the new switch.
