Turbos sending me to the Dentists, The first sign of turbo failure?
Over the last couple of days I have begun to hear what is think is the dreaded dentists drill sound form by turbos when I step on the accelerator and the engine revs go between 2500 and around 3000 (I dont know if the sound continues above 3000 but I suspect it would).

From what I research I have done its in this rev range that the turbos are working and therefor on boost. Also that the dentist drill sound (a high pitch wine/rattle) is the first sign of the Turbos being on their way out.

Can anyone confirm this and if this is the case how long after the dreaded dentist drill sound appears do the turbos tend to last?
Many Thanks
James

Anyone know a test for the turbos to see if they are on their way out?

I neglected to mention that my car only has 85000 miles on the clock, that does not seem like very many miles to get out of a set of turbos.

myself and a couple friends have audi turbo's, different noises on different cars though. one car has the sound you are speaking of, and it is leaking oil everywhere, the hoses are caked up with oil, but the turbo still spools. how much oil do you have? still , this just means the oil seal let go, maybe yours is still good, ,and the bearing let go, but soon enough i think the oil seal will go etc... the other car, ,stick, when going to 3rd gear quckly, backfire... so much smoke out the back you thought you were crop dusting. this turbo really let go. so, i think you are at your early stages of it letting go. if you can take a hose off and shake it, it will have a tiny tiny bit of play, it you can shake the wheel around, thats it... good luck, my one friend is pondering on what to do, he is so disgusted... its an s4.

Make a video and post on youtube. Mine is a sssssssssssssssssssssssssss noise when spooling but its very very light. I'm positive that your supposed to hear a little bit of a spooling sound but if your hearing **** like the dentist office, I think you have a whole new monster to deal with.
