Default Value?

Hello,
I'm looking to buy an Audi A6, and my question is, why do they loose so much value. I've been looking around and a 1997 A6 2.8 Quattro in excellent condition is worth around $5500~6000. What makes them loose so much value so quickly?

it was only new once so priced at the going rate ( depreciation is a killer ) regardless of make of car, look at Rolls Royce for instance, it seems not every one wants the ultimate unless its cheap the better and more expensive the car ( apart from the obvious ) the price falls lick a brick but surely that's good news

i just bought a 2000 a6 4.2l for under 8 grand. The sticker price for it 7 years ago was over 50k I think. Depreciation has alot to do with it. But I think the fact that many people consider Audis not very reliable and very expensive to maintain hurts the resale value as well.

the only one that loose less money while time pass are BMW, Lexus and Porche the rest is basically all the same; even if german cars keep the value more than the other cars
