Default What is the biggest rim size you can put on ?

I tried searching for this IN the FAQ but could not find a straight answer. my question is : WHhat is the biggest size rim you can fit on an 01 Audi A6 2.8Q without modifying anything? 17s, 18s, 19s or 20s and how is the drive? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I bet you could get 20's but it would be mighty ugly and the ride would suck.
go with 18's or 19's

I have the same car as you. 17's are the best combination of performance, look, and response. If you go any higher, your car will look stupid without installing lowering springs.

i would say 18s if you don't want to do a suspension change. put on 19s b4 my suspension and i think it made the car sit to high; but if you are willing to make the suspension change then you could go probably as far as 20s.

20s wont fit and 18s look cheap and small. if you have the money i imagine a custom shop could make 20s fit but it might not be worth the money. i stuffed 19s under my 95 a6 quattro and it sits sort of high, not much higher than my ugly 17s it cam with but do need to lower it to make it look good. hope this helps, hope my pics make it in the post. d-

i've seen 20s on several different c5s. i have, however, only seen one that they looked good on....(rs6, 20'rims, 1.75'/1.5' h&r coilovers)

I have the sport suspension, would 19's fit without the front tire rubbing? I have 17's and I know in general, you can go up 2 sizes on rims and keep the same ride, but with this suspension I dont know.

Also, this is just a thought. With the quattro, would I have problems if I was to go with 18's up front and 19's in the back?

I think 19s (with the appropriate tire of course) would fit without rubbing, but I think most people have found the tire gets awful small with a 19 and thus you are risking wheel damage if you hit a pothole or a speed bump.

As far as 18s in the front and 19s in the rear, the overall diameter is whats important. However that would result in the rear tires being a lower profile than the front which would obviously look pretty dumb. If you used the same profile height, your rears would be larger diameter and would cause all kinds of problems on the driveline resulting in costly maintenance and repairs.

Plus, if you ahve different sizes you can't rotate front to back meaning your tires will be chewed up much faster. You can't even rotateside to side because thetires are generally considered directional after they have been on the car (meaning you shouldn't flip them around backwards as it could result intire failure or shortened tread life).

All things considered, its just not agood idea on an AWD car. Decide what you prefer (18s or 19s) and just wrap the car with a set. I think if you look around you will find 18s would work best with the sport suspension, and they look very nice too.

19's for sure, 18's look small. Whether your riding 18's or 19's if you hit a pothole hard enough it will bend it either way. Good luck with whatever you choose, 20's look weird on our cars they don't sit right. Just my $0.02.
