Where is my coolent going?
Ok so my 2.7T how was 100,000 miles on it and I have a problem with coolant loss. I don't know where its going. I had to mechanic look at it and he said he could not see where it could be leaking from.
Can you burn coolant?
Could this be a sign of a turbo problem?
i would estimate the loss at about 1/4 of a quart and it only really brings the coolant tank back up to the minimum level when its cold from being less than an inch below when min mark.
any ideas?

Yes, you can burn coolant.
You burn a quarter of a quart how often? Once a day? Every mile? Once a year? You went out and saw it was a 1/4 quart low but you can't remember the last time you checked it?
Look for pink residue underneath the coolant tank. The tank is most likely your problem. But, it could be a warped head.
It is doubtful that it is a turbo problem. That would be just about the last item I would check.

I have this same issue. I have had the hoses checked and a leak can not be found. I do see some coolant by the front drivers side tire, but that will only happen every few weeks or so. Sometimes there will be no leaks for months and then a bunch will leak out one day. Let me know what you figure out.

My bet is the auxiliary or secondary coolant pump on the back of the engine, over the bell housing. Mine leaked for quite a while, leaving a pinkish residue on the transmission housing. Never puddled up on the floor.

Another common leak point on the 2.7L is at the o-rings on the coolant pipes under the intake. They run from the front of the engine to the crossover coolant manifold on the rear of the heads. Generally you'll see coolant in the valley near the front (need to pop the appearance covers off to see). Sometimes it will run out the back, onto the bellhousing and appear that the leak is in the rear. Sometimes though, it will not leak enough to drip on the floor, instead the coolant is evaporated from engine heat before it gets that far. If it is the coolant pipe o-rings, it's fairly big job to replace them. In total you need 5 o-rings. Three of them are the same p/n, the other two are each different.

The auxiliary pump cost $115 through my indie shop in 2007, and they also did the work. Cannot comment on the complexity other than it appears it has to be accessed from underneath the vehicle. They found it when they were replacing my clutch and flywheel. Good luck,
