Audi A7 towing option

Hi, I just installed a Curt Trailer hitch for my 2014 A7. My intentions are to tow my 2 motorcycles to the track. My Audi mechanic was concerned about this hitch since Audi does not offer one. He showed me where the hitch was to going to connect to under my car and it doesn't look to promising. There is no true frame that this hitch is supposed to be connected to. I am now afraid of the towing capacity on my A7.

I want to tow 2 motorcycles weighing about 450 lbs each, plus weight of trailer.
It will be under 1500 lbs. and tongue weight of about less than 200.

Has anyone installed and towed something with her?

doubtful

This cheap solution does not look good to me, with only 1 mounting bold on each side.
My european A7 has a retrofit Westfalia towing bar (with removable hook and audi compatible cabling). I can pull trailers up to 1900 kg with no problems.
The activated A7 trailer stability program is stabilizing unwanted movements.

Check the European Hitch installation guide, you might get some guidance to how it is attached.

Thanks guys for the feedback. I installed a Curt trailer hitch and not a problem thus far remotely with what I am towing for either electrical system, or the tow installments to the car.

I'm about to do this on my 2014 A7, I was wondering how is this going for you?

In my case I'll be towing a Buggy which is about 600lbs, the trailer to be used is 1,280lbs.

Any advice is welcome!

Thanks

So you think you will be towing a total of 1880 lbs? I really would not recommend that. That is one insane trailer. You need a truck or SUV for this. My total weight was max 1100 lbs as seen in my picture. After testing it with my small motorcycles I didn't want to chance towing with it with 2 Sport bikes. So I kept it simple and it works perfect. However I wouldn't go anything over that and chance it. Our vehicle is a unibody frame so it's not structurally strengthen for that purpose to toe that much weight. Could it possibly do it? Sure I would definitely not try it especially if you're trying to tow a buggy that you're probably going off road a little bit and the vibration of going up and down and the stopping go can put strain on the unibody.

The Audi A7 is officially approved to tow a maximum of 4.180 lbs.
This is also the German TUV approval.

I use the original Audi factory installed towing hook and tow a trailer of 3.300lbs with no problems at all. Even crossing the Swiss alps passes.
The A7 (quattro) is a very capable towing car.
The mentioned Audi approved after market Westfalia towing hook has the same specs, thats also ok.

Cheap solutions like the mentioned Curt trailer hitch are not allowed in Europe.

@Fhod, Well I guess I am learning something new. I guess we Americans underestimate things. Great to know that it has this ability and straight from a European resident. I mistaken it as a fragile car.

@Jorge Campos, good luck with the install. Rest assured its good to go!

Thanks @Fhod and @quattro617 for the help.

I was a little bit worried using the trailer from U-Haul, plus they look horrible  I did attached that trailer to try it and it felt heavy, the card was ok pulling but not sure if is the quality of the trailer or what, but it didn't feel right.

So I went ahead and purchased an aluminum trailer, expensive but really good, see the picture attached. The Aluma trailer is just 390lbs and fits the Buggy perfectly, in total I'm towing 1040lbs, which the car seems to be pulling without issues at all.

Can you share any closer-up pics of your car with the receiver removed? I'm trying to get a feel for what it looks like when you aren't towing.
