Coolant temperature high error

I have an appointment to bring my 2012 Audi A7 for coolant temperature high errors, my question is, is it safe to drive the vehicle for 40 miles, that the distance from where I live to the dealership.:(

Do you get that when the car is still cold or after its been running for a while?
