04 Trunk Latch non-operational

Hello,

Anyone know about fixing a non-working trunk latch? There is no fail safe fix to at least keep the trunk closed manually.
Other symptoms:
Trunk light warning light stays on
Trunk closes and when it won't latch goes back up
Can't hear the latch motor sound it normally makes when closed
It's been below freezing here since it started doing this but I don't think the cold has anything to do with it.

Thanks for any tips.

Scott

Its the electrical latch bolted to the trunk lid, very common on all audis actually. Crappy manufacture part i suppose.

The Whole design on our trunks sucks! You'd think it would be better n a car that cost over 70k new!! Mine did same thing last week and I parked it in my garage for two nights now it's fine. But I was about to buy a new latch. Yep warning light would stay on and trunk was un latched for a week

Thanks for the reply. $140 parts and labor. Looked easy enough but no time and too cold to work on it. Would have waited it out if the dang truck-open warning light didn't take over my head's up display full time. How come when you're almost out of gas or even have a flat tire the idiot bells & lights come on for a few seconds but then go away so you can still change the radio station.

(BTW - I disabled the tire warning system years ago since it never seemed worked correctly)

Thanks again!

Have a great holiday!

I am having the same problem with my trunk latch . I want to replace the latch myself , is it simple to do and do i need to reset it with vag com. By the way is the latch purely mechanical or does it contains electrical components as well

Depends on the part at fault.
-Upper latch in lid is mechanical.
-Lower half of latch is electrical/mechanical with integral power latching unit mounted in the right side of boot, under lift motor.
-Power lifting is a separate motor unit under right side boot lid hinge.

Problem solved. I sprayed WD40 into upper lid latch ( with the cover of the latch removed , just by pulling it out ) and remove the fuse of the power pull down module which is on top of the battery for a few seconds. I hope this will fix it permanently .
