1999 A8 Quattro potential purchase questions

Hi fellas, new member here.

I've been checking out a 1999 A8 for sale. 155k miles, new transmission (from an A6), timing belt/water pump done at 100k, fuel pump about 1000 miles ago.

All electrics work, but check engine light is on. Owner said Audi said it was an "EVAP sensor/something," frankly I don't know what that is. He said he has been driving it for 40k miles with that light on, no problems. I figured it was an 02 sensor but apparently not.

Also, the passenger window won't stay up. He says from about halfway to 80 percent it will go up using the power switch, then it falls back to halfway. He has solved the problem by using a suction cup on the inside of the windshield which leans on the door panel, not allowing the window to fall.

My questions: What is the EVAP sensor and how important of a fix/how much should it cost? He said Audi quoted him $1200 but that's Audi.

Also, what's the deal with the window? He said Audi quoted him $800 for that, saying that it was probably some clips that hold the window had broken (not regulator, since it seems to work), but that taking the door apart in an Audi is a big job yada yada. Ideas?

I haven't driven the car but he did mention a minor clonking sound from the exhaust, I'll find out more when I drive it. Also the driver's armrest is broken but I hear that's common.

What do you guys think about the EVAP and the window? All other systems seem fine. Looks nice from the pics, just road rash from stone chips etc on the front. I'd like to buy this car, but I'm a SAAB guy and know nothing about Audis and don't want to get taken by the stealership.

Thanks, all.

p.s. It looks like there is visible wear on the seats. They guy is 230lbs and I'm wondering if the seats are going to be flattened or are these seats pretty durable?
