2001 A8 a/c charge
The a/c is getting a little weak so I had my mechanic try to put some dye in the system to find a leak. Since he mostly works on BMW's,he couldn't do it. Where is the low pressure connect point? I figured I'd save some money if he doesn't have to research it.
I thinks he found the high pressure coupling right in front of the radiator but wasn't sure. Thanks |
Christ they are right next to each other under the plastic pleanum on the passenger's side just under the windshield. I thought a BMW ACE mechanic would get that LOL. Just kidding. There is nothing by the radiator besides a high pressure switch.

Thanks, I'll tell him. He had pulled the cover off the driver's side and didn't check the other one. I'll go back today.

We looked where you said both found no a/c hoses there. The only hoses are under the pleanum in front of the drivers seat and there is a connection to the high pressure hose but it's a screw-on fitting not a standard coupling. Are we still looking in the wrong area or does Audi a different connection fitting?

Then its the old school version, the low port will by on the driver's side next to the master cylinder. Sometimes there is a sensor in place of the low port, which you will have to pull off before charging. Shown below.
Attachment 42526 I would just charge it using the low port, if he needs access to the high side he can remove that sensor by the condenser (radiator area) that he talked about earlier. |
So, he will need an adapter for his connection fitting. I see that it is a screw fitting. The coupling on his dye gun and charging hose looks like an air hose coupling. Does this mean I still have to take it to the dealer?

They make really cheap adapters that go over the threaded area to hook up a R134-a fitting. If you can't find one then yes the dealer would have to take care of it for you. Here is a pic of a guy that did it right over the threads using a small fitting.
