2001 AUDI A8L Serious Buyer. Please Advice/Help

Considering getting this by the end of the week. This will by first luxury auto and my first Audi.

Pros
  • Replaced timing belt/water pump 5k miles ago
  • New tires (95% tread)
  • Window tint
  • 110,xxx miles
  • Great condition in/out

Cons
  • Transmission doesnt go into reverse
  • 2'' by 2'' chip/crack in front bumper
  • Stock Navi works only sometimes (planning on custom upgrade)
  • Parking sensor doesnt work

Tranny doesnt go into reverse.
Is it covered by the recall for this year?
Easy fix or tranny rebuild?
Est. cost of repair?
Dealership or 3rd party repair?

What other issues should i be aware of?
Recommend custom install of cd deck / 2 12'' subs?

KBB is $7500. Seller only wants $4500. I guess if the tranny was $1500, this car would cost $6000. Seams like a GREAT deal for this car with low miles. I test drove it today and it is very sexy and seems to be perfect in everyway except for no reverse.

the transmission will need to be replaced.

as far as i know the auto transmissions in this gen A8 was the biggest issue, and it seems like they all go eventually.

if you go into the deal banking on the $1500 for a new tranny, it seems like you could make out alright

I called around and the lowest quote i found so far is 3500 for rebuild, highest was 7000. Crazy, i was way off. The seller has now become aware of the costly repair. I think If i can get the car for under $2600. Ill buy it and pay for the repair.
