2003 A8 PCV questions
I'm getting a lean error code on my A8 and suspect the PCV valve. After a bit of Googling and Youtubing, I need to get some things clarified.
True or False: If, when the engine if running at idle, you remove the oil filler cap and you fell suction holding the cap on to the opening, the PCV is bad?
Also, when the engine is running and you hold your finger over the opening at the top of the PCV valve, I can put my finger over the opening and feel suction. Pretty strong suction. Does this mean the diaphram inside has a hole in it.
I did find one source of the air leak which turned out to be the hose from the secondary air pump where it connects to the stainless steel tubing at the valves at the back of the engine. Deteriorated and cracked right at the clamp. Was able to snip a bit off and reconnect. Still need to replace the thing but it can wait.
Anyway, can I get a definitive answer on the PCV Valve?
Thanks,
Dave

Just saw a post below that confirms my suspicion of the leaking PVC valve. If you can feel a suction (I cannot hear it because I'm about flippin' deaf anymore) in that little opening on the top of it, it is sucking excess air and is causing a lean error. It's also tripping a MAF sensor error (new MAF thrown at it).
Now if I can just find that EVAP leak, I'll have this puppy licked for a while.
Thanks,
Dave
