2004 A8 questions?

I just recently purchased a 2004 A8 with 70,000 miles and have a few problems. One of which I know what to do and that is replace the all the tires, feathering has occured. I will post the exact tire later on but I know they are Cooper tires, they suck. My real question is I have narrowed down a sqweek in the back seat to the bottom rear door compartment that swings open. You can move it a little and it sqweeks. Is there a way to add a lubricant to it or do I have to replace the whole unit? and if I remove it how would I do that?

Cooper tires are horrible yes. When finding replacement tires get name brand good ones, and something with a deep tire tread. I'm replacing mine with bridgestone 500 tread, amazing tires for all seasons. And you most likely would not have to replace the whole unit. Scratch that, unless it's broken in some way their would be no need to replace. Probably just a small adjust or like you said a lubrication on the hinge. Just look around the sides of it and if it looks like a hinge, lube it up! Hope it helps

Thanks for the comment. I will try to lubricate it later this week. The tires are Cooper 2XS tires. When I get a chance to research tires I'll look up those Bridestones tires.

No problem, anything that is a good top quality brand with a good deep tire depth. Micheline sport pilot plus is another good quality one also.

The sqweek is not gone. The lube did not help, I'll take it down to the dealer this week to see what that sound is. The new tires that I just bought yesterday are the Micheline Sport Pilot Plus, excellent tires so far. No complaints yet.

Hmm, squeak could just be the compartment disconnected in some place or a broken hinge altogether. And that's great to hear about your tires. They are the main ones that I am looking to replace my Pirelli Pzero's with. It's between the sport pilot plus's or the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity. Any more information on these tires you could give me? Is the ride much more comfortable with these tires? Thanks

Update

The tires are excellent, quiet and ride confortable. Also I was having fun on the freeway and these tires move excellent. For an all general tire they are a great purchase. It was worth the leg work to get a deal on these. I purchased all four for $1326 which is still high but worth it.

The squeak has been fixed. I had the Audi dealership look at it and it turned out that the panel came loose. He did replace one of the screws.

Well that's great to hear. How much did the Audi dealer gouge you for? I heard those dealerships rip you off almost as much as mercedes dealers and have horrible service also?
