2004 A8L 75,000 mile service
 

Does anyone have a list of what this service entails? I have read various opinions on the timing belt, etc. Can someone help me with the proper list?

I would rely on my local dealer but they are HORRIBLE. So many times, when I was under warranty and extended warranty, they failed. Kept the car for a week when they said a day (with a spiffy 5 year old Seabring loaner) and so many times they just didn't get it right (for 2x's the price). So bad I am debating not getting another A8L - although I love love love the car.

There are 2 sticky maintenance threads at the top of the forum that are a very good starting point.
Most people agree that anywhere around 80k is a good time to do the timing belt, water pump, thermostat, timing belt tensioner and all the idlers that go with it. Any one of those things is sufficiently labor intensive that the price of all the other parts is more or less insignificant, so you might as well hit them all at once.

Shop for a good German car mechanic or specialty garage with a good reputation. Get a quote with parts/labor breakdown.
All parts for service (Timing belt, water pump, etc) can be ordered online for a fraction of dealer price. You can compare this to their price minus labor claimed to be needed.
If you're not doing the work yourself, you are at the mercy of a mechanic..but not in danger of sudden failure of anything for the time being. So do a little research in meantime...the more you know, the easier to tell an honest mechanic from the others.
I highly recommend that any car owner should own a workshop manual, whether you do your own work or not...$130 worth of info could save you thousands in the long:

The more you know, the less you'll get ripped off. Plus many learn that a lot of diagnosis of problems can done with the manual and many jobs fixed or adjusted with home tools.

The dealer will hose you to the tune of about $3,000 on a D3 A8 timing belt overhaul, a good indy mechanic can honestly do that for half that, or even less if you buy the parts online.
Audi's 75K spec sheet includes:
Oil and filter change
Pollen filter change
Tire rotation, inflate to specs
Top off of all fluids
Lube door jams and hinges
Check and erase all DTC memory
and thats about it, of course we recommend the whole kit a kaboodle, don't wait longer than 90k to get the belt done.
