2004 A8L Air Shocker!!!
 

The orange airride light of death come on last weekend and by the time I got home my passenger front tire was up in the wheel well. I drove it to my mechanic(FYI: 10 miles away city/highway. No problems, just watch out for potholes), and am waiting to see if it is a broken air line, bag tear, total mess. After the Audi guy said "oh my God" twice, he told me a new air shock is $1500. Arnott Industries does not make anything for the A8 yet. Does anyone have any suggestions? Audi sells a $200 air shock rebuild kit for the Allroad, but nothing I can find for the A8.

Let me know if you find a rebuild kit for the A8. I'm looking for one as well. My air compressor crapped out and I'm looking to rebuild the front shocks while I'm in there replacing the compressor.

Ok, problem $olved.

Eric at force5auto has a guy that will rebuild shocks if you send him the whole unit. Erin said the guy won't quote a price until he inspects the unit. I got a feeling that this would be pretty cheap, but my car would be out of commission for days? months? years?

What I ended up doing was buying a rebuilt unit from Shokan Coachwork out of New York. I am not sure if they have a bunch in stock or they are a yard that just happened to have a wrecked A8. I bought the right front one.

What I learned
Ebay doesn't have anything that isn't for an Allroad.

Lisa at Arnott Industries says they are bringing a A8 air bag to market very soon.

Audi didn't have anything except for laughter and a $1600 price tag.

If you ask someone if they have an airbag for a A8, they will tell you they have 20 in stock, until you tell them it is for the suspension. Then they have zero.
