2004 A8L Computer reset problem?
when you put in the new battery, did you recode it to the car, even if your coding is just changing the serial number for battery it must be coded, as this resets the energy manager
not that i think this is the answer to your problems, battery problems cause a lot issues in these cars
it does sound like your dash insert has a problem, could be the insert or wiring to it
probably best way forward is to get a scan done by vcds or audi this will at least show what errors are coming up and give you a start to finding the problem.

I am bringing this thread back to life. I had some major issues with the air system so, have not used the car. Now it is back on the road again and the issue with the dashboard still pertains. However now there is another symptom. Other than the dashboard resetting more often, the dashboard will now also go on "tilt".
When it is on tilt, i see:
- middle part of the dash works (although miles stays on 0, radio part works and temp works for startup, but does not update
- several lights are on: ABS, the yellow air system light, the parking brake, the yellow triangle with circle and maybe some others.
- The tach and speedo are not working
- the backlight for the dashboard is not working
- time on the MMI system is on 12:00 am and stays there.
- the middle console (airco, chair heat, cold, heating) are lit up and working (during the resetting they were working but not lit up.
I have found that only disconnecting the battery resets this "Tilt" mode.
I am going to put the computer on it tonight and see what I can find.
In the mean time, if anyone has an idea, please let me know.
Thanks,
Ronald

I had very similar problems about 2 years ago and it turned out to be the ABS Control Module. if that is the cause, you can send your old one in and have it rebuillt or remanufactured for less than $175. Symptoms I experienced were: SpeedO not working, TachO not working, Fuel Gauge, Trip computer, Steering adjusted to speed mode (hard) the suspension dampening did not respond, power fold mirrors didnt fold in, couldnt adjust the Air Suspension....If that is not that, it could be The Battery Management System which only allows systems to operate that are important, while turning off unimportant battery consumers such as interior lights, heated seats mirrors etc. Hope this helps.

I do not have all the symptoms you summed up, but I do have most:
not working:
tach
speedo
Not sure about the dampening, but I do not have any option on my MMI to adjust the air suspension anymore.
My mirrors do still fold up, heated seats are still working as well.
What is a reputable place to have the ABS module rebuilt? and where is it located in the car?
Thanks again for your help,
Ronald

By the way, my MMI control for adjusting the suspension was grayed out as well. As far as the suspension dampening, the car my rides very hard with not much cushion.
