2006 - lights under rearview mirror?
 

Ok, before you say "Ha! Stoopid Newbie, those are reading lights and they're controlled by the round buttons," they're not.

This is the 2006 A8, not L. Under the rearview mirror are two lights which are either the reading lights or interior lights. I forget which. They are controlled by the two round buttons.

What I'm talking about are two very small little lights also under the mirror. We can't find reference to them anywhere in the owner's manual, and my husband is freaking out because they came on and wouldn't go off.

They show up in the pic in the owner's manual too. But nothing to indicate what they are, why they're on, how to turn them off, or anything.

We're both new to Audi's and we're still going through the many booklets to familiarize ourselves with the myriad of buttons in this car.

Help. If I don't get this thing figured out no one will be getting any sleep tonight.

Are you talking about the little LED lights built into the mirror housing? Those are in all audis, it illuminates the shifter area lightly, audi calls them ambient lighting. They have no real purpose besides looking cool.

Yep, that would be it. Thank you very much! I figured it was something like that but my husband was getting all freaked. LOL

So, these lights are supposed to be on at all times? Im thinking its an open electrical circuit? Did this issue drain your battery? What did you do to fix it?

Probably come on when you unlock and off some time after locking up, maybe 90 seconds.
They are on lots of makes of car, not just VW/Audi. I know Cadillac Catera for sure.
