2006 versus 2007 Model

I am looking at buying a used A8L and there appears to be a large price drop off from 2007 to 2006. Is it because there is still some warranty left on the 2007 model or is it because there are substantial differences between the 2006 and 2007 models?

Please let me know your thoughts if anyone has any insight?

2007 has the 350 hp fsi engine, some interior upgrades. The fsi engine is the major change.

So is the FSI Engine in the 2007 that much better? Is it a legit upgrade over 2006? Sounds like it...just confirming.

FSI is Audi's version of direct fuel injection into teh cylinders. It's teh new hotness for adding power and economy to a 4-stroke engine.

I'm also thinking about buying a preowned a8l 2006 or 2007 and I think I read somewhere that the 2006 has a timing belt and the 2007 has a timing chain. If this is true I'm wondering if the timing chain needs to be replaced at a certain mileage. Thanks in advance.

The 2007 4.2 FSI does have a chain, the maintenance schedule does not show a replacement time frame. The 2006 and earlier have a belt replacement at 75K

Unless you have money to burn, the 2006 is a great car. You can get extra ponies with a unitronic flash for 500 or so.
