A8 buying help

hey!

im new here so i first of all i want to say hello :p
and then to my question:

I recently moved from austria to sweden so right now i was looking for a good and very comfortable long distance drifing car so my closer look came to the A8.
Since i live quiet close to germany i took a look at a view from 1994-1997 they are all about 5000usd to 6000usd most differences are in the miles that they have been running.....
is there any doubts i have to have after they have been running 250000 or should i more go for a 150000 one? are there any bugs that those cares have like the automatic or electricity?

besides of that there is of course also taxes and assurance......how much would that come up to a year?

hope i didnt ask to many questions at ones, just that i dont want to blow my money away and then stand somewhere on the highway beweteen stockholm and vienna :p
sorry for my bad engish!

RE: A8 buying help

Your english is better than about half the native english speakers on this site:D

It's CERTAINLY better than my Austrian or Swedish...

As with ANY older/used car, the older it is, and teh more miles it has on it, the bigger the chance that something will go bad/wrong with it, at any given time. That being said, as long as the regularly scheduled maintainence and upkeep has been performed (hard to do as it passes through more and more hands) it should/could last a long, long time. I don't think anybody here would recommedn that you go for a 250,000km example, however. But, all else being equal, Europeans tend to take better care of their Luxo-barges than we American do[:'(], in my experiences, anyway. Given the current gas prices I'm guessing you're looking at a 3,7L or 2,8L; and, since it's Sweden, I'm also guessing QUattro is a no-brainer. I know of no major issues with higher-mileage (kilometerage?) cars, if, I say IF they're properly maintained and receive their regular checkups and services.
Small things include:
- Headrests that stop going up and down, if not exercised, periodically.
- Same with the electric rear-window-shade, for the same reason.
- Water leaking into the interior passenger footwell, if the drain plugs aren't cleaned occassionally (every other year, or so?).
- Sun/Moonroof malfunctions if the tracks aren't cleaned at least once per half-decade.
- There are others, but I can't seem to think of them, at this moment.
Bigger things include:
- MAF sensors that eventually become dirty and cause the engine rpm's to drift up and down, possibly wearing out a nylon valve in your Transmission, over time.
- Transmissions that aren't periodically serviced becoming troublesome.
- Using the incorrect Anti-Freeze/Coolant in your radiator and corroding your engine coolant system.

If I think of any others I'll drop back by and post them...

Welcome to teh forums:D
