A8 - Performance Mods

Does anyone know of any performance chips that work well for the A8? I'm trying to find one that will increase hp and regulate/improve fuel usage and I can't find anything anywhere...

i've seen chips such as the SLR Chip, but those things seem like a load of crap to me. Anyone ever install one on their A8? Did it work?

Unitronics makes a quality chip, whether it will net horsepower is debateable. Fuel mileage is also increased (claimed) www.034motorsport.com
Other than that you can get a sprint booster which will hasten the signal the throttle body gets from the gas pedal decreasing 0-60 times, this actually does work.
Other than that a supercharger.

Don't know your year....but on D2's, the 50hp gain on S8 over A8 is done through a different manifold, heads (different porting) and possibly cams (not sure about those)...but has exactly the same block, injectors and exhaust system (headers, pipes and mufflers...only chrome tips added...same part #'s fro all other exhaust parts). It has a different ECM as I understand, mainly to increase redline, which adds some HP. A large part of it's increased acceleration, though (and worse mpg's) comes from the gearing...same trans as A8, but lower geared final drive (front & rear).

One documented case from a member of another forum: Stock pre-facelift A8 (engine, exhaust, ECM, etc...) with only change being a tweaked facelift S8 transaxle and a rear differential (gotta match both) shaved a full second off 0-60 time...and a few mpg's too.

So just how much could be done with chipping alone really is debatable...supercharging, as you'll find, is high dollar and according to most stories I've read in forums, of very debatable quality and longevity.

good info, thanks silverd2. I have heard not heard good things about chips, no real gains, reliability issues. I was advised by a race shop (Shine Racing) to just enjoy the car and cruise...so thats what i am doing for now :) However, they are still shopping a good vendor.
