A8L or Mercedes S550?
 

I just took an A8L for a testdrive and needless to say I am very impressed.

I've done a search about the A8's on this messageboard to find out if there is anything I need to keep eye out for? I'm talking MX problems or general dislikes/likes with the car?

Also how does it compare to the mercedes S550? I really liked the car and how it is just there it isn't flashy just strong looking.

Oh i forgot how do you change from sirrius to an xm radio in the car. I have XM and I want to continue to have it. Anychance they could do a computer sqap or is it a hardware swap too?

what yr is the A8L? S550 sounds like its the new platform...A8s are greatly engineered cars and will last u if you baby it up and can afford the costs to be incurred later in its life..say if i is at least 5 yrs old.

S550s are incredible cars too. If i knew about timing belt changes i would have opted for merc...i hear and read that they have timing chains instead of belts so you dont have to change em. Do look into that. MErcs also have less tranny issues...might wanna ask dealers about that as well.

Heck if i could afford it id run up to the s550 or beg some rich daddy to give it to me...do you anyone of those?

I have to say A8L.
Before I got my A8L, I also looked at S550 and bmw 750Li. The bmw was not even close with these two. I think A8 is subtle, and refined, while the s550 styling screams" LOOK AT ME!"I love a8's interior, from the control layout to the alcantara headliner and the soft ambient lighting. It gives me a cozy feeling. I definitely can't get the same feeling from S550. While it has more high tech stuff than a8, but I can't say they are very useful nor worth the price. S550 is a good car, but when u add some basic options, u'll have a near 6 figures price tag. while the A8l is at around 85000 very nicely equipped. I think these two cars are top dogs in their own perspective, but A8 for me is better overall with a lower price tag. And for S550, u have to pay for all ur service(oil change, break pads, wipers and fluids) while AUdi includes everything except tires. I just think when u pay nearly (if not over) 6 figures, these little things should be free. one a side note, the MB dealer in my area have a fleet of C class loaners while my audi dealer try to get me an A8(standard wheelbase) when mine's in for service.

I would have to say the A8L all day long.
I drove the previous S500 MB and it was a very nice car, but lot's of little problems.
Test drove MB550 and A8L back and forth for about a month, and I am sure glad I made the decsion to buy the
Audi.
Quality of materials, refined feel, everything is just well thought out and planned, spacious, interior and exterior looks are very tight and clean not to mention gorgeous.
The only thing I will say that MB has over Audi in this luxury segment is seats are more plush and comfortable, and you can really feel that 385hp motor. Other than that it's all Audi!

I had a 2000 MB S500, first year of the previous model, MB had to take it back on Lemon Laws violations.... is the current MB S class a first year model ? ... yup...

Walk softly and carry a big lawyer... I hope they got it right this time...

I also had a 03 E320 Sport - same dang issues... M

ive got to say i own a audi a8l and they are very nice and i would take it anyday over a s550 i now that sounds dumn but it is the best car i have ever had

well my uncle has a 2003 s430 an afta 3yrs of owning it he had problems with the air ride suspension, cost him $1000 to fix i--- i mean cudn it hav lasted a lil longer!!???
