Hypothetical question everyone.
I have a 2006 A8 with 80K. I understand that these cars can nickel and dime you to death after 100K. Problems with Suspension, oil coolers etc. I have done all maintainance with Audi dealer and have done all the necessary preventative work i.e. timing belt etc. If given the choice of keeping this car (in great shape by the way) and running it into the ground or purchasing a newer A8 or S5 ...what is the general concensus? Much appreciated in advance.

the answer really depends on what your current financial situation looks like. If your current A8 is running well and has been well maintained, there is really no reason to suspect that it wont last you another 100K miles. There will always be maintenance issues that need to be taken care of but you will have that problem on a "newer A8 or S5" plus the addition of a car payment (I'm assuming). Also guessing that "newer" doesn't mean brand new. So you have to ask if the PO was a diligent with the recommended maintenance as you have been with the car you have now?
on the flip side, if you really want a newer car and are prepared for the possibility of paying for unanticipated repair costs, go for it.

As has already been started, every car is going to cost you something sooner or later. Parts ware out. My 2002 A4 I run until ~167k before we parted ways. Repair costs are always going to be with you. By keeping on top of the maintenance they are not so much.
Guess what I am saying is your 2006 should run for another ~100k before you really need to think about parting ways. If the repair costs are not a lot then she still has life in her. At the point where things start to fail one right after the other, then the time has come.
