Best motor oil for A8, 4.2, 2000 facelift, 300k kilometers
Hi all, need suggestion for the best motor oil for A8, 4.2, 2000 facelift - D2, 300k kilometers motor.
I'm confused between the following types that Audi offers:
Original oil for Audi cars.
5W40 Special Plus 505.01 - Audi / VW / Skoda / Seat
VW approved 502 00/505 00/505 01
Part number G 052 167 M4, 5 lit.
and
5W30 Longlife III 504.00/507.00
VW approved 504 00/507 00
Part number G 052 195 M4
5W30 price is about 30 % higher, but I want to put the right oil.
I searched several forums but there are many different suggestions.
My car is on 300 000 km.

Tough to get a single answer on that. Much may depend on what's been in it most of it's life...many believe that switching to synthetic in a car that has always run dino oil (non-synthetic) is not a good thing and can lead to leaks that were not there before.
The motor can run a varied viscosity ranges, within reason....Audi says 0w30 is ideal, but 5w30 or 5w40 are OK, too.
Your general climate is a factor, too...I personally think that Audi's recommended 0w30 is just too thin, unless you live in a very cold (in general) climate....generally hot climates, many owners go as high as 10w40 with no harm done. It is truly not that critical, so long as stay within a reasonable range...with some concession for extreme climates (hot or cold).
If it's always (mostly) used synthetic, stick with that. I have always run NOTHING but synthetic 5w30 or 10w30 in a moderate (varied) climate.
I would NOT waste the money buying oil from Audi...just go with a good brand such as Castrol (my favorite), Amsoil, Mobil 1, etc...they are just as good as any Audi branded oil and meet or exceed all their specs.

Thanks.
I will get 5W40 Special Plus 505.01. I will grab the bargain, so this is the reason why I chose Audi's oil, otherwise I would use Castrol EDGE or Magnatec series.
Several other people told me to get 5w 40, although 5w 30 was also available.
