Both Cats going?

Both Cats going?
Just scanned as yesterday my check engine light went on.
these two codes came up
looks like both cats are acting up.
couple questions:
1. is it possible that something else could be triggering this, like an O2 sensor, etc?
2. if it needs replacing, what is the most economical for this vehicle, and how much should i expect?
Thanks in advance...!

Nice. Ty.
I Put some fueladditive in on an empty tank that i filled up and took two trips to sf and back...about 144 miles round trip.
Before refueling, i reset the codes. All seemed fine after the two trips until i was running idle, which is when it came up the first time.
The light went on when i was going about 28mph the first time. This time, after almost 300 miles, it came on as i was sitting in traffic.

I would check & see what the fuel trims are. It is not likely that both cats went at the same time.
If they do need replacement the only way to go is to replace with factory units from the dealer along with all new o/2 sensors. Aftermarket cats are junk & are only a temporary fix at best.

mr2.com/TEXT/O2_sensor.html (add the www. to the front of the link)
will give you a better understanding of oxygen sensors than our simplified attempts at repair with this blog. They can be cleaned and/or checked with a multimeter, which is cheap and easy before spending $$'s (you will be a expert on oxygen sensors by the end of this exercise ;=)
Another question: How is the performance/mileage of the car.. has the mileage been stable or have you made repairs lately using silicon?

Google and plug cat converters into the search function..
There are a number of sites that will give you some ideas.
Have you checked the 02 sensors for buildup (i'm guessing they are ok) because if they fowl out they tend to remain that way.
Something is causing your problem which is coding thru the 02 sensors.
Do you have a Indy with a real obd 2 unit handy?

thanks for the reply. sorry for the delay.
i have "friends" in the audi business, as tom shea would say about diamonds!
i do have a bluetooth obdII scanner that is in all the time and i check it with my cellphone software.
bank 2 cat keeps tripping up.
O2 sensors are fine as i can see them in real time with the software, it is definately the cat.
so far, fuel seems fine, but i will probably have my buddies take care of the cat soon.
just did the upper control arm bushings yesterday at the shop! FUN! lol.
