Can the rear indicator LED's be replaced?

I have just bought a 2005 A8 and noticed that several of the rear indicator LED's have blown. Audi say that I have to replace the entire lamp, but is there a cheaper way, e.g. replacement of the individual LED's?

What do you mean exactly by rear indicator LED's? You mean the one's on the rear window, the strip light? Or the actual taillights themselves?

Last time I checked my 05 A8 didn't have any LED's in the taillights. That's only on newer A8's. Behind the glass of ours is just a tail lamp bulb.

And as you can see if you click on it then hit view illustration; the tail light is lit up by a single bulb.

I don't have an '05 to look at, but I thought the turn signals (maybe 3rd brake light) was LED(?).

To be clear, my car is a 2005 UK car might count as MY 2006), but is a facelift model with the Novolari grille. The turn signals consist of multiple LED's, some of which are blown...

Can anyone shed any light on this?

The entire assembly has to be replaced.

I agree with the above post. There is no feasible way to repair them. Even if you did find the correct LED's (theres hundreds of different types, sizes and styles) and managed to get the lamp apart, unsolder the old ones, solder in the new ones, the results would probably be unsatisfactory.

I agree with the the two above. I just replaced the trunk lid rear lights (main housing crack) and it is placed together pretty good. And it is just simpler to replace the whole tail light. It took me an hour to do the work, mostly because I did not know how the carpet on the trunk lid came off.

Future reference, the trunk lid carpet is held in by 5 screews for the tool box. then there is two philips screws where the handle is if you shut in manually; its in a small hide away inside part (just look inside and you'll see it). Then there is a screw on the emergency handle, the green face just pops right off to show the screw. then its just a bunch of metel clips holding the carpet in place. The last two things was the electrical for the light and the push button for the trunk. Everything just goes on just has it came off.
