Default Change Starter & Battery Overheat Control Module

Hi

Can anyone help me understand what is a battery overheat control module & where is it located. Also what could be the implications if the same is not changed. I need to replace it. Do i need to get the same done by a dealer or a regular mechanic shop can handle it well?

I have an issue with the starter too on 2005 a8. How many hours of labor is involved in it. I have a dealer estimate of 1050 on battery overheat control module & 750 on the motor (Part + Labor)? is this reasonable?

Thanks

The battery control module (BCM) is on the right side above the battery and toward the front of the vehicle.

It controls charging and quiesce of electrical systems, so yes I would say it should be changed if it's in fact bad.

BCM is about $450 2005 AUDI A8 QUATTRO Parts - AudiUSAParts.com

Starter is about $275 2005 AUDI A8 QUATTRO Parts - AudiUSAParts.com

Thanks for the reply jakematic.

Can i change the BCM myself by simply replacing it with another BCM or it will need some programming on it to be done too?

Also if you know, can you tell me on an average how many labor hours should it take to replace starter. I believe ECM should not take a long time to change it if it means just removing the old one with a new one.

Thanks again for the reply.

I don't see why you couldn't do the BCM yourself.
A Bentley manual will help a lot and they are worth the cost without a doubt.

You would need to program it, and probably clear DTC's with VCDS (formerly VAG-COM)
Ross-Tech Store: VCDS

Also worth every penny - as it can pay for itself in about 2 hours of dealership labour.

No idea on the hours it would take, sorry.
