wanting to know for sure if the above is all I need or do I need to take the dealers much more expensive recommendations

thanks in advance

It's a "pay me now, or pay me later" kind of thing...

The dealer list is a very comprehensive one because if you need to go back in 10,000 miles later, you're just redoing some of the same labor. Given the items that usually cause problems, they are suggesting that you just do it all now.

Would you change your engine oil and leave the filter for later because it still had another 700 recommended miles before needing to be changed?

You get the idea...

Yes i do recommend doing the tensioner and idler pulleys, i guess i should add that to my sticky.

Try to find a good indy to do the Timing belt maintenance. I had my indy do it and he charged my $1025. That included tensioners, pulleys, timing belt, thermostat, waterpump, and serpentine belt. The dealer said they wanted $2500, I was like your smoking. Then he said that only an A8 mechanic can work on the car haha. As long as the mechanic knows what he's doing then you're ok.

Thanks for all the replys. it makes sense to do those other things since theyll be doing the timing belt and water pump at the same time but I just dont trust the dealer that much.

Always change the pulleys and tensioner when doing a t-belt change!! If you can find an independent you will be much better off in my opinion. I have never had good experiences with dealers, thats probably why I do my own work!

I just had the service done in Toronto (Queensway Audi) and yes it was a $2500 price tag. When I found that out I told them I will take it to Bero Motors (a independent shop right around the corner from them) the price suddenly dropped to $1800 to meet the price that bero quoted me. They are fucken scammers but I left it there....but from this point on....I am taking it to Bero exclusively.

My A8L had 126,000 Km on it....service really needed to be done.
