crank seal replacement - 40v 4.2

I did the timing belt about a month ago and the crank seal was bone dry. Now it's leaking like crazy so I'm installing a new front crankshaft seal.

I have the old one removed and ready to install the new one. How do you remove the "thrust washer"? Bentley calls for removal and then rotation so the new seal is on a different sealing surface. The thrust washer is on the end of the crankshaft behind the crank gear which I've already removed.

Does it just slide out? There's not much to grab and it's not falling out. If I leave it in place and try and install the seal the inside will just fold over so I think it has to come out.

The Bentley just says "remove" thrust washer but no additional detail. I'm stumped.....

Update: I just added this pic. I also see a couple of "thrust" tools shown. I have the right size socket (46mm) to drive the seal in but I think the lip will roll over if I try and install it the way it is...
