Did d2's ever come with power-folding side mirrors ?
Did D2 A8/S8's ever come with power folding mirrors? Europe maybe?
If so, would it be something really complicated to retrofit ? thanks |
They were available in Europe (only?) on D2's. The trade would involve the proper control unit (relay) in central electrics, door switch and mirror swap would involve removing inside panels on doors.
I assume Europe got that feature for more narrow streets(?)...my experience traveling in the UK...knocked off a rental car mirror in Scotland. |
I would really like to retrofit them to my car, I always use it on my mother's benz so thought it would be nice on here. Can't find any power folding mirrors on ebay though..

'02 A8L - Rotate mirror switch fully counter-clockwise and mirrors fold in.

OK great so now I know it exists... now could anyone give me the part number for the switch and the mirrors (at least the base with motor, I guess the covers and the mirrors are the same) ?
thanks |
mirror
On my 2003 S8 only the rt mirror folds in by power. I thought thats the way it was supposed to be, but yes turn switch all the way to the lt and mirror will fold in.

Parts suppliers only show one kind of mirror switch for all US D2's 97-03...and only one kind of replacement mirror. I notice your switch has the graphic on it for folding...my '01 does not and will not rotate back. Even lists of equipment for various models don't show the folding function until well into the D3 models: http://www.audiworld.com/model/a8/content.shtml Someone with ETKA could likely find the part #'s for the folding version mirror and switch, since obviously they were put on some D2's...at least from '02 on. But according to wiring diagrams in Bentley, a seperate control unit (relay) in central electrics is also required for them to operate. |

My D2 has twin folding wing mirrors - it's a 2.8 quattro Sport on a 2002. It also has a great auto tilt reversing feature that drops the nearside wing mirror when reverse is selected. I wish my new A5 had the same feature!

I know this is old but I thought I would chime in on something that I found. My 2001 S8 didn't have the power fold option but I wanted to add it so I started collecting parts. I bought a switch that rotated all the way around for the power fold position. One day I was messing around and decided to install it even though I hadn't sourced power folding mirrors yet. I had it in the car for a few weeks and decided to rotate the knob to the fold position to see what would happen and viola!.....the passenger mirror folded. The drivers mirror did not fold. I checked for the wiring in the drivers mirror plug and it seems like the plug is wired for it and the module supports it if you have the right switch.
