Early A8 Question
 

I have a somewhat bizarre question, this is for all you A8 experts out there...

A friend tells me that on his 1994 A8 he could easily put a blue rotating beacon with a magnetic base on the roof (for VIP cars, the kind that plugs into the cig lighter). I asked how he could have a blue beacon stay put on the aluminum roof of the A8, and he said his attached just fine.

All A8s that I see with blue beacons have them sit on little metal holders that attach to the inside of the door frame of the rear left passenger door.

Did the early A8s have some metal body panels, specifically the roof, or did his beacon have no problem sticking to the roof because there is steel under the aluminum roof panel?

I'm sure it will have some metal under there "role cage" for safety reasons

i have a 97 a8 and one of my redneck friends bought a "GIT R DONE" magnet as a joke because i hate that redneck saying and i caught him at my job(we work together) trying to get it to stick but it wouldnt. we played with it for a while and it wouldnt stick anywhere even most of the suspension is aluminum really the only thing steel on the car is nuts and bolts. i didnt even know they made the a8 in 94. to be honest with you i think hes full of shit tell him i said so too!!!! just like in the movie Transporter2 the bad guys stuck a magnetic bomb on the bottom of the A8 W12 thats bullshit too i was about to stand up in the theater and yell "thats bullshit" but noone would really understand ....
