what are some good companies that offer reliable extended warranty?

Easy Care - they price Audi extended warranties so ridiculously, that you are definitely better off just taking your chances.

Also try Warranty Direct, and National Shield Warranty (google both of them). National Shield is owned by Protective Life, a decent size insurance co. that is very well run. Protective is headquartered in my home town, so I am familiar with them.

yea, post your question over at quattroworld.com or audiworld.com and look for a response from Bruce M. He sells warranties to a large number of A8 owners on all of the forums.

I had the same question about Audi pure protection (Platium extended protection) - worth the money?

Are there some dealers who will sell me the warranty without buying the car from them. I am looking for a A8 with about 20,000 miles but want to by the warranty at the same time as its normally cheaper when the car has low miles.

I currently have a VW Phaeton with their version of pure protection its called Real Driver and its a Fidelity product too.
