Fuel door still open?

I went to refuel last week and my display keeps saying that the fuel door is still open. Occassionally it does turn off but returns. Has any one ever heard about this problem?

I didn't know that there was a fuel door light, however i do know that there is a light for the cap. The cap has a magnet in it that closes a circuit when its turned closed. If the magnet or part that reads the magnet is screwed up it will cause a light that looks like a little gas pump on your dash board. A scan of the intrument panel with a vag com can tell that though. What does your owner's manual say it is?

Its just a warning that the fuel door is open. Just as if the trunk or hood or doors are open. I was just curious if the switch identifing the fuel door has some problems that I do not know about or can it just be a simple adjustment?

Just re-fueled yesterday since the problem came up and no more sensor error saying the door is open. My mechanic says maybe the heat moved the plastic in a way that the sensor was not detecting the door closed.

What ever it was is gone or moved back into place. Thanks auditech79 for your help.

As far as i can remember, my mechanic told me that the fuel door light thing just let us know what side of fuel door is on. In my old truck, it appears in the speedometer area on clusters without tach's and in the fuel gauge area on instrument clusters with tachometers.
