Fuel Pump

Fuel Pump
mechanic friend of mine is dealing with this one, but I will be getting to look at it soon. I wondered if anybody on here have fitted a fuel pump to one of these.
This car cut out and would not start again. Fuel pump was dead.
A new genuine fuel pump was fitted .The car started and drove perfectly for about a hundred miles and then cut out. The tank was filled with petrol (only took about £25 to fill) and car drove ok again. Fuel guage was reading 1/2 full. The tank in this one is in 2 sections, there are 2 fuel gauge sender units and only one pump in the tank. I expect one side of the tank was full and the fuel is not getting across.
I think there must be some way that the fuel siphons from one side of the tank to the other. I would appreciate any thoughts on this before I tackle it as it apparently is a very difficult job to fit the pump into the tank.
Thanks
John.

RE: Fuel Pump
The pump uses the return line pressure to pump fuel from one side of the tank to the other. I suspect one of the lines isnt hooked up correctly in the tank. There should be a third sending unit in the trunk. The sending units should have arrows on the caps that align with arrows on the outside of the tank. Make sure those are aligned properly. Also make sure the float isnt caught up on any hoses or wires. Also make sure all the wires are plugged in inside the tank.

RE: Fuel Pump
i've taken my fuel pump out, tested it and it works, it was a complete sod to refit, especially getting the interconnect pipe to re seat, however the car still doesn't want to run, it turns over, fires but won't even idle, the fuel filter is new , new battery, and a differant pressure reg, and it's run through 1551 vag diagnosis with no fault found...[:'(]
