Fuel Theifs

I know it happens a lot now days but I just looked out the window at my Classic Mini Cooper (I haven't driven it in a while) and I just noticed that someone has broken off my aston fuel cap and the lockable one. I presume to pinch fuel.

The cars on a drive on a main road for gods sake! Its also right below our bedroom window. (unfortunately I am a pretty heavy sleeper- if it was done at night) It couldn't really get more public, and with four flats per building and the mini in view of all of them... there really taking the Mick.

Its really becoming an all to regally occurrence within the mini scene. Its not like classic mini tanks hold a lot of fuel! But I guess the fuel nozzel is easier to break in to than almost any other car.

I suppose it could have been worse, they could have taken the whole car.

I am worried whats going to happen when I get the Audi. I can imagine unless I do something its going to be a regular occurrence. Does a Audi S/A8 D2 have protection from fuel Syphoning? Most "modern" cars do (I believe- and 2002 is reasonably modern right?)

The fuel door has a piston behind it that latches the fuel door closed when the car is locked, on top of that its almost impossible to get a hose to the bottom of the tank and syphon it out. The older audis we could drain the gas tank that way which was great for us, but when we have to change out gas tanks on newer cars we have to drive the car until the tank is almost empty :( No worries about an A8 being syphoned.

Great,

Thanks Audiotech.
Could they still cut a fuel pipe under neath or would this not work without the engine and (fuel pump) on?

You can't access the fuel tank or lines, there are heat shields and crap in the way. The tank is above the rear axle assembly. More trouble then it would ever be worth to a criminal. They also can't steal the car, because of the immoblizer system, the only way they could get that car is by towing it.
