The 06 is one of the best models, so go for it. The 04 is the one you want to watch out for.

hmm, i'm happy owner of A6, but i was thinking to get same car, A8l, 4.2.
is there anything to be aware of ? Mean 2006 year, and about 40-60k miles.

When is the timing belt scheduled for replacement ? How much for it ? What about tie rod ends, control arms, drive shafts, mufflers and cat. ?
Any issue, like A6 ??? (stuck pass. window, missing pixels on central LCD console, cruise control) ??

Thx.

The A8 doesn't suffer from some of the problems the A6 and A4 has, but it has its own set of problems that happens. Such as: trunk motors, trunk hinges, MMI failures/updates, upper control arms every 50k, super hard to change oil etc.
As far as tie rod ends and alignments, i haven't seen any real problems, but it does cost more to align an A8 due to the air suspension.

Question 2006 a8

I also wanted to know if I should focus on getting an extended warranty on the 2006 A8 due to the repair costs associated with this vehicle, or are they reliable enough where I can get an uncertified AUDI A8.

Always try and get a warranty of any kind when owning an A8. There are just too many moving parts and gadgets that can break over time. Plus the price of parts from germany costs an arm and a leg.

Are there other extended warranty's offered besides the one the dealer offers when a car get's "Audi Certified"? The downside to the Audi Certified is once you surpass the original 4 yr. 50K warranty you only have 2 yrs. or 50K miles (which ever comes first).

Yes you can buy aftermarket warranties, such as Fidelis etc. You can customize how much coverage you want through most of those companies, i highly recommend getting one.

Trill, you probably have a faulty control module or something. When something in the fiber optic data loop goes bad all the things in the data loop turn off. The data loop is the radio, navigation, MMI screen, 6 cd changer, and telematics. You would need to pull the fault codes.
