Motor Oil Draining

I am just about ready to change the oil on my A8. Can the oil be suctioned out thru the dipstick or must it be drained from the oil pan sump. Any replies would be appreciated as I have been told you cannot suction the oil out thru the dipstick tube on certain Audi engines. Thanks again.

I would highly discurage it. Regardless of whether its safe to be done suctioning does not get all of the crap out of the pan. Not to mention you have to drain the filter resevoir anyways. I would just change it like normal. Is there a specific reason you want to suction the oil instead of draining?

Probably because he doesen't want to remove the belly pan.... I can sympathize.

I don't think it's that bad an idea.... If the dipstick hits the lowest point of the pan then perhaps you CAN syphon out all the crap. I mean, it's not like you're trying to suck up a leaf or twig.... If you are, then an oil change is just the beginning of your maintenance list lol. Yeah go ahead and try it but on an A8, I rekon there isn't too much room to get your hands on the filter from under the hood so if this is the case then bit the bullet and do it all from underneath.
