Nav CD?
 

So, after figuring out that I have disc 7 only (not so useful when driving around Colorado), I'm curious to know if there are any secrets to getting my hands on disc 2 for cheap (legit copies...or not)! Or, in the very rare chance that someone wants to trade disc 2 for 7, I'm game for that too!

You need a new disc, you can't use a used one as far as i know. It downloades itself to the unit after installation. I believe you can get them at the dealer for around.....im gonna say $200 as an estimation. Navteq's products don't come cheap.

I'll tell you this, eveything i have or anyone i know that has purchased any electrical item off of ebay either didn't work or was the wrong item. Even the slightest scratch on a Navteq disc can cause problems on the old navigation units. If you ask me, it would be more efficient (and accurate for that matter) to buy a TOM TOM or Garmin. You might even be able to modify your stock radio to adapt to the new nav+ system like the S4 guys do, which is just a screen fitted into the radio and it has two hard disc slots behind the screen so you can add MP3 files to the radio's hard drive. Those you can find for around $300 on ebay, but just make sure its from a reputable supplier and it has the correct wiring adapter to work with the A8's wiring. The Nav+ system only needs one disc for the entire US which it should come with.

hmmm...what you say intrigues me...I'll have to do some innerweb searching for the system you mentioned!

Here is a pic of a Nav+ system in an S4, the installation is the same as far as the wiring, you just need a can bus module to go with it which should come with the unit. Trimming of the panel may be required as well. I researched it a little on audiworld, it should be the same install as the A4/A6. Its also a hell of a lot easier to use and it can pin point specific areas like airports, hospitals, restaurants, etc.

I certainly like the nav+ system...A quick search shows them for sale starting around $1,100! Where or for what should I be searching for the $300 systems you mentioned earlier?

Starting at $1,000? Just search for the A4/S4 set up, it will be the same installation for the A8.

So, I just bought the whole USA coverage (less Ohio Valley) Nav CDs from ebay for $70. We'll see if that was a good idea...

If it wasn't maybe there's another sucker like me out there willing to pay the same amount!

I got the nav CDs in the mail today...popped in Disc 2 and it looks like I'm good to go!
