Navigation Is Not Installed
Hi all,
I have a 2006 A8L W12. Three days back the navigation system stopped working all of a sudden. The MMI reads "Navigation is not installed". I am clueless as to know what happened. I tried resetting the MMI several times to no avail. Any Ideas?

Take a look at the DVD drive in the trunk/boot on the left side.
It should have a light on it - if it doesn't it's a fuse.
Edit: You can also try ejecting the DVD to be certain the unit has power.
If it does it's either a MOST ring issue or the Nav unit croaked.
Do you have VCDS (formerly VAG-COM)?
It will help greatly to narrow down the issue.

I took it to the dealer to diagnose the problem. They are saying that the DVD Nav's control unit is faulty. The part number is 4E0 910 888 PX. A quick google search revealed that it is the whole DVD unit implying that I may need to change it. I think it also goes by 4E0 919 887 M. Not sure if that would work.

That's what I was afraid of.
It's an interesting design that they put the nav electronics in the DVD.
But that also makes it expensive to replace.
The A6, Q7 and A8 share the same drive in many cases.
A friend of mine just picked up a NOS one on eBay for $800.
Check ecstuning and other sites to see if the part #'s you find are supersedes of the old one.
It's a pretty painless replacement but you will need the "radio tools" T10057 (I think) to pull the old one out.

I found several units on ebay ranging from $400 to $700 - all essentially pulled out from used cars etc. Well it's not as bad as I expected, but it's still an expense. I just want to be sure that I find the right unit that would fit my car.
