Need help with audi a8, abs control?
 

Hi guys need help.

It is so that I have had problems with my Audi A8 model in 2004. This happened last Saturday, when I start the car as it glows in the dashboard, there are two indiktator that lights both are red. They flash all the time and when I drive also. What could be the problem?

Visited today Audi workshop and guy there said that your Abs control unit is defective and must be replaced. He said it costs approximately 2800 dollar to order goods from Germany and 1500 dollar to fix it is it really so expensive? Come on you are experts and need fast help.

Where else can buy the Abs control unit - i dont know if it is the real name of is.

Help me.;);)

Questions for clarification:

US model car?

What lights are flashing? ....exactly...describe symbol/location on display.

2800 for parts and labor?
2800 is WAY more than any single unit costs for that car...the high end for the entire hydraulic unit should be under 1900 full retail...cheaper from other suppliers. The units can often be repaired by companies specializing in ABS units for a few hundred...or at least be tested for actual failure.

ABS has a hydraulic unit under the hood and (if it's the same as earlier models) a control module in the car...2 seperate things. Many other components can trip warnings besides the main units themselves...I would want a second opinion and a detailed explanation from the mechanic. There is no clear answer for you at this point, without more info.

The car is imported from Germany. It is the warning lamp that flash and the electro-mechanical parking brake. They flash when i start the car and when i drive it. The mechanic said that ABS control is defectiv and must be repleced.

Then i said 2 him that i found one in ebay for 400-500 dollar. He answer that you must buy the whole kit? i dont know what he means with that? He joke and said if u can buy one for 400-500 dollar buy one for me 2.

Went to another shop and he told me that you have to replace right rear brake caliper? Cant they just say the error ???);; Im very CONFUSED right now. If so anyone know how much brake caliper right rear cost?

The rear calipers DO double as the parking brake. I would go with that opinion, if they say it will solve the problem.....makes more sense....and much cheaper.

Calipers can often be repaired, rather than replaced...but no way of knowing the problem with yours. Here's the only link I found for your particular caliper new:

Remanufactured calipers with 2 year guarantee often sell for $120-$220, but didn't see one you need on a quick web search...may be out there though.
