Need Help! Looking to buy 2000 A8.

Just looking around the forums for information about purchasing an A8.

I am interested in a 2000 A8 4.2 with 99,825 miles.

Has all the service records, everything looks good.

The only thing is the transmission was overhauled at 93000 miles. Is that normal?

With this kind of mileage, what other kinds of things should I expect if I purchase. How is the reliability?

What are the major service that will be approaching?

What else should I know, look for?

Any help and advice is more than appreciated.

Thanks
Richard

Read the sticky at the top of the posts. D2 A8's have severe transmission issues, so an overhaul at 93k is as normal as replacing the spark plugs unfortunately.
Reliabilty will be the same as any large luxury brand vehicle with 100k on it, low.
Control arms will need replacing, tie rods, brakes, axle boots, oil leaks everywhere, electrical problems, and my favorite. The timing belt, water pump, thermostat, tensioners, rollers, and serpintine belt probably needs replacing. Wait for it...............you're probably looking at $7,000 in repairs in the next 2 years. Wonder why the guy is selling it?
