Hithere, I just bought a 97 A8 4.2L it has a no start cranks good but has no injector power or pulse.I purchased this with this problem I am a ASE MasterTech but I don'tdeal with thess carsThe person I bought it the battery went deadinstalled new battery and then no start it runs on propane.I believe it has to do with the immobilizer system,I was hoping anybody in the Sacramento area can reprogram the system other then the dealeryou can call me (916-798-3289) Thanks Mark

 

Immobilizer wasn't used on that old of a model, and if it were the immoblizer it would start for a second then die. I know a good tech at niello audi that would take a look at the car for you on the side if you wanted. He loves the older A8 and we all pretty much shuffle all of them to him to work on because no one else really wants to.

 

That would be great if you could shoot me a name and number.This car ran good prior to the battery problem and yes it has done that a couple of times start and die its got spark and fuel pressure.

My '97 has the immobilizer fitted, and yes sometimes the keyreader fails to recognize one of the keys. The car will always start up fine, run for a second and then die with the immobilizer (key symbol) warning light on the dash flashing - not sure that the US models have that warning light though.

Hey i talked to old dave at niello and knew what it was right off the bat.
First he said that only the european models would have immobilizer on that body A8, so thats not the problem, but he said he comes accross this problem frequently.
The problem is you have 2 crank sensors, one to help start the engine and one to keep the engine running.
If one of them goes out it will sometimes start then die, the cure would be to just replace both of them and they run about $100 dollars each. He said if that doesn't fix it he will check it out for free
