noise from rear at speed
Hey guys I have a whiney drone from the rear between 60 and 75mph. Below or above I dont hear the noise. It is speed related, does not vary with engine speed. Any ideas? U joint? Diff? Rear CV? Bearing?
Thanks! |

Does the noise vary when turning - the rear bearings have been known to go bad, especially if the car sat for a while. Also check the condition of the tires, cupping, wear etc (some tires are just noisy)

I agree with Silverd2, start with the rear diff.

Had the same problem got the bearings fixed and no problems after that...

Im in agreement with T-Roc and gpoc. Rear wheel bearings are a very common occurence on any audi, i went thru 4 in my A4 in 100,000 miles. Its very easy to tell if they're bad too, they always get louder with increase in speed, and the noise will vary when turning.
