problem with transmission A8L

Has anyone had transmission problems?
I have a 2005 A8L and the dealer is telling me I need a new transmission - my car has fewer than 50K miles
Thanks, miminan

A8L Transmission problem

I had a burning odor - took car to dealer - they said it was in the transmission line which they replaced ($1000+).
Brought car home - second burning smell - now they say it's a part that they can't get a replacement for(no separate part number), however they said it was a minor part and that the transmission itself doesn't need to be replaced...but they can't replace just the part??? Does that make sense to you?
It certainly doesn't to me in a car that has fewer than 50K miles!
Thanks

No trans operation or driving symptoms? ...just burning smell?

First recommendation is a second opinion from a non-dealer mechanic about the smell..WITHOUT telling him ANYTHING about the trans.

In earlier D2 A8's (think it's similar in D3's ?), number one cause of burning smell at before 50K miles is drive shaft flange oil seal dripping gear oil onto catalytic convertor (very common, almost guaranteed, in D2'S). You can check this...just look under the car when hot (or cold...cat will be wet with oil).
Less common at lower mileage would be leaking valve covers on engine, dripping oil onto exhaust manifolds...pop the hood when hot, look and smell.
