Default Transmission Service Note

New "old" Audi owner here.. Greetings.

In lieu of the cost of replacing a transmission, I''d like to suggest changing the fluid every 24 months or 30/35K miles.

You may think this is too often but keep in mind that this procedure keeps a problem item from becoming a pocket book ripping experience.

IMO, flushing a transmission is opening a can of worms.
After having several perfectly good transmissions fail over the last few decades, I've decided to steer clear of flushing.

Audi and their agenda with transmissions being a service free item should give you a cause for thought.

As for fluid, I'm a fan of the Allison spec fluid. It does a good job of firming up shifts, without being overly harsh.

I concur, and ironically just had the very same conversation with an old friend on Sunday.

We've both "flushed" transmissions right down the toilet in the past and he's been having very good luck with the drain/refill exactly as you described.

He is about to hit 300k miles on the transmission in his Honda that was rebuilt about 100k miles ago.
The guy who rebuilt his told him they "should never be flushed, even when new".

Others may have differing opinions, but we both agree with yours and my A8 is going on that schedule.
