Hi,

the V8 lettering on my 4.2 1997 is red... does that mean anything special ? I've seen it mostly on facelift S8's ? maybe early v8's were all with red lettering... just wondering

It means that you have a '97 and someone might want to buy that cover from you :)
Some (or all?) 97's came with that. Facelift S8 just had a red border around the "V8 4.2" on the front end of the engine cover...Facelift A8 has silver border.

The lads across the road paint their brake calipers red, which I presume increases braking power.

Surely, therefore, the red V8 lettering on the engine must be worth at least an extra 5 BHP. :)

That's very fair.....Done! :)

After all, just a K&N air filter (I use them religiously) is "said" to add about that much.
